Artist Statement:

I am a self-taught artist who has been working in the medium of paper cutting since 1999. I chose to define my practice as The Art of Papercutting because the phrase captures both the simplicity and the essence of what I do. Through my work, I aim to breathe new life into this century-old art form and share its timeless beauty with a contemporary audience.

At the heart of my practice is the meticulous process of hand-cutting a single sheet of paper and transforming it into an intricate design. Nature, animals, people, and diverse cultural motifs — especially those rooted in my Indian heritage — continually inspire my work. This cultural fusion shapes the gentle curves, smooth transitions, and precise lines that define my pieces.

Each artwork is crafted entirely by hand using only fundamental tools — knives and scissors — with no commercial reproduction techniques involved. I am committed to using archival, museum-quality materials from start to finish, and I often enhance my work with hand-painted details and three-dimensional mounting to create added depth and dimension.

Through my paper cutting, I seek to capture both the beauty of everyday objects and the grandeur of larger landscapes, celebrating the endless creative potential of this medium. Experimentation is central to my process, driving me to continually refine my techniques and explore new directions. This journey brings me profound satisfaction and a sense of transcendence that I hope resonates with every viewer. I want my work to highlight the connection between a fading traditional craft and contemporary artistic expression, inviting viewers to discover, enjoy, and reconnect with this delicate art form. My greatest wish is that my creations bring as much joy to others as I find in making them.

As a full-time artist, I am dedicated to inspiring others to appreciate, create, and preserve this unique craft for future generations. Life is fleeting, and my hope is to continue creating meaningful works of art that people around the world can cherish — today and for years to come.
